Hi,
I'm Gearóid Keane, a concertina player from Co. Kildare. I teach private and group classes all year round, in person and online, and I tutor and perform at events and summer schools throughout the year. My mother Nuala is from Co. Clare, and it was from her that I picked up an appreciation of the Clare style, its tunes and its energy.
I'm an All-Ireland senior champion in both duet and trio, and I play with the Beartla Ó Flatharta Céilí Band alongside my brother Seán on fiddle. Over the years I've been lucky to perform on television and radio, at festivals and summer schools around the country such as Tullamore TradFest, the Joe Mooney Summer School and the O'Carolan Festival, and around the world with Brú Ború, Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann and Riverdance. I'm also a world champion Irish dancer and a fully qualified Irish dancing teacher, having completed my T.C.R.G. exams in 2017, so rhythm and timing get as much of my attention as the tunes themselves.
During the COVID-19 lockdowns I started recording video lessons, and I've kept teaching online ever since — it's a great way to reach players who can't get to a class in person.
Away from the music, I work as a Senior Data Engineer, and I put that side of my work to use for the tradition too, building websites and IT solutions for Comhaltas branches and other groups at a reduced cost. Whether it's a tune, a technique or a bit of tech, I'm always happy to help.
Thanks,
Gearóid
